A scholarship is vacant at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Department of Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning, for a three-year PhD-project within the theme of farmland protection.
The Department of Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning has its main activities within urban and regional planning, property and landscape architecture. The institute has 700 students and 70 employees
Research Project
Protection of farmland is of vital importance for food protection and a valuable and scarce resource in the long term food security perspective. The PhD-project may address one or possibly a combination of the following topics:
- Drivers for conversion of farmland to areas for development
- Long-term food security strategic thinking in local land use planning processes
- The use of new planning legislation for long-term farmland protection
- Project proposal
- Master thesis
- Scientific papers, other written works

Academic Qualifications
The successful applicant must have a MS degree in urban and regional planning, engineering, architecture, land management or relevant social sciences such as geography or sociology. The applicant must document expertise and interest in the research subject.

Remuneration
The successful candidate is expected to enter a plan during the first months of the appointment for the progress of the work towards a PhD degree, with a view to completing a doctorate within the PhD scholarship period. The department has its own Research School starting in September. It is desirable that the successful candidate can start September 1, 2014.
The salary for PhD-scholarship is at the wage grade 50 (equivalent to annual salary 421 100 NOK). For especially well-qualified applicants, alternative salary placement could be considered.
