PhD scholarship within urban transport/urban planning

A scholarship is vacant at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Department of Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning, for a four-year Ph.D. project within the field of urban transport and urban planning. The scholarship has been established as part of the cooperation between NMBU and the Norwegian Public Road Administration, by which the position has been funded

The Department of Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning has its main activities within urban and regional planning, property and landscape architecture. The institute has 700 students and 70 employees


Research Project
The PhD project is expected to contribute to the development of knowledge relevant for coordinated land use and transport planning in cities and urban regions. It is expected to address one, or possibly a combination of two or more, of the following topics:
  • Residential location and travel in small or medium-sized cities
  • Location of public institutions and agencies: Impacts for commuting trips, visitors’ trips and goods transport
  • Influences of transport infrastructure development on urban form
  • Land use changes in urban areas assessed from a sustainable mobility perspective


Academic Qualifications
The successful applicant must have a MS degree in urban and regional planning, engineering, land management, architecture or relevant social sciences such as geography or sociology. The applicant must document expertise and interest in the research subject.

Remuneration
The successful candidate is expected to enter a plan during the first months of the appointment for the progress of the work towards a PhD degree, with a view to completing a doctorate within the PhD scholarship period. The department has its own Research School starting in September. It is desirable that the successful candidate can start September 1, 2014.

The salary for PhD-scholarship is at the wage grade 50 (equivalent to annual salary 421 100 NOK). For especially well-qualified applicants, alternative salary placement could be considered.
