We invite applications for a PhD position for a project with the title: ‘Integral System Innovation in Broiler Production’. This research will be carried out within the framework of a recently started German-Dutch cross-border project FoodProtects, in which a large number of German and Dutch stakeholders in livestock production participate. The research is focused on three main questions: (1) integral analysis of broiler production taking account for e.g. animal welfare, (chronic) diseases and hygiene, use of antibiotics, and farm economics, (2) farm-level system optimization, and (3) embedment of the production system in the wider supply chain (with emphasis on product marketing). This multi-disciplinary research includes livestock and animal health economics, animal production, veterinary science and risk analysis. Various techniques will be applied, such as statistical analysis, bio-economic modeling of the broiler production system and system optimization. Close collaboration with veterinary researchers is part of the activities. Relevant courses to overcome gaps in knowledge and/or skills will be offered.
We offer a challenging, multi-disciplinary and future oriented research project, embedded in a stimulating scientific environment as well as embedded in a wide German-Dutch cross-border stakeholder and policy environment.
