PhD in Environmental and Resource Economics

Background

The University of Southern Denmark, Department of Environmental and Business Economics, invites applications for a 3-year PhD scholarship in Environmental and Resource Economics.

The Department of Environmental and Business Economics is part of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and is located in Esbjerg. Research in the Department is organized in four research groups, and the announced position will be part of the Management and Economics of Resources and the Environment group (MERE). In January 2011 the MERE group was awarded a grant to build an internationally competitive ‘elite’ unit. More information about the research group can be found at www.sdu.dk/ime.

We seek candidates with theoretical and empirical research interests in policy and management questions in environmental economics, renewable and exhaustible resources and ecological economics (macro or micro). Interest or expertise in applications to marine or terrestrial ecosystems under transformation from climate change, invasive species, habitat destruction or other threats is particularly welcome. While the research group consists of economists, the research is often placed in a multidisciplinary academic and international environment.

It is expected that the successful candidates will apply integrated modeling approaches to assess the effects of ecosystem change on the human economy and broader environment within the context of relevant regulatory and/or strategic frameworks. Experience with cost-benefit analysis, appropriate valuation methods for non-market goods and services, policy evaluation and/or ecological science is advantageous.
The Department provides a competitive salary, modern facilities for research as well as resources for travel and conference participation.

Further information can be obtained from Professor Brooks Kaiser, phone +45 6550 1590, e-mail: baka@sam.sdu.dk.
