Stockholm University is announcing five PhD student positions in psychology, one within an unspecified subject with Ref. No. SU FV-0491-14 and four within specific subjects (i.e., project positions) with Ref. No. SU FV-0492-14.


The PhD positions are:
  • Emotion Psychology: Individual differences in emotional abilities – genetic and neural factors.
  • Affective Neuroscience 1: Emotional processing in the aging brain: Studying sensory interactions with neuroimaging and behavioral techniques.
  • Affective Neuroscience 2: Effect of oxytocin on socioemotional function with a special focus on aging and brain function (fMRI).
  • Clinical Psychology 1: Design and testing of an intelligent smartphone application that will be used in between therapy sessions.
  • Clinical Psychology 2: Problem Gambling Prevention.
  • Clinical Psychology 3: Cognitive behavior therapy for insomnia: Analysis of components, mediators and moderators.
  • Cognitive Psychology: What moderates the predictive validity of ease of learning judgments, and are they important for study success?
  • Environmental Psychoaocustics: Perceived realism in reproduced and simulated sound environments.
  • Perception Psychology: The dopamine system and olfactory function. 

Requirements
To be eligible for PhD studies in psychology, an education of at least 240 credits is required, corresponding to three years of full-time studies on undergraduate level, and one year on advanced level. At least 90 credits in psychology on undergraduate- or advanced level is required, including a thesis corresponding to a minimum of 15 credits. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology finished before July 1st 2007 are eligible to apply (until July 1st 2015).

Selection
A review committee will assess the candidate’s ability to successfully complete the PhD program. Criteria used in the review process are the candidate’s research plan, which should be included in the application, a previous paper/publication, and other relevant educational and professional merits.



Applicants may submit only one application for the position within an unspecified subject. However, applicants may also submit a research proposal intended for a position within a specified subject (see ”project positions”, below). Applicants who submit two research proposals will only be considered simultaneously for the position within an unspecified subject if the two proposals are substantially different from one another with respect to theory, method and/or research area. Applicants should also specify how the two research proposals differ.

The PhD program comprises 48 months at full-time studies. The positions are financed by a doctoral grant ("utbildningsbidrag") for the first year, and then continues with PhD-employment ("doktorandanställning") until the end of the PhD-program. Applicants with external financing may also apply.
